Tuina Medical Massage
RM 120

Tuina Medical Massage, also known as Chinese Medical Massage, is a traditional bodywork therapy that has been used in China for 2,000 years. Tuina uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of the flow of essential energy or Qi through the meridians as its basic therapeutic orientation.

Through the application of massage, pressure, and body manipulation techniques along the 12 meridian lines, Tuina seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi through the system of channels and collaterals, allowing the body the naturally heal itself.

How Is Tuina Medical Massage Done?

Tuina is generally applied to a clothed or partially unclothed body. Patients sit on a chair or lie on a treatment table while the therapist applies pressure to the acupoints of the body mainly by using the hands, fingers, thumb or knuckles.

How Does Tuina Medical Massage Feel Like?

Tuina basically feels a very vigorous massage; every technique requires movement as well as pressure, After the first session you may feel a little sore but after two or three more most people adjust to the deep pressure.

Depending on the type of Tuina treatment you have, you might leave feeling a bit light headed. Some patients experience sleepiness while others feel supercharged. Almost always, everyone feels better after Tuina.

What Can Tuina Medical Massage Treat?

The main benefit of Tuina is that it focuses on the specific problem, whether it is an acute or a chronic pain associated with the joints, muscles or a skeletal system. Tuina can be used as an integrative treatment with other modalities such as Acupuncture, Reiki, and other forms of complementary therapy modalities.

Some conditions that can be effectively treated with Tuina include:

  • Reduction of acute or chronic pain of the joints and muscles
  • Treating arthritis, sciatica, and muscle spasms
  • Treating stress related disorders
  • Treating digestive related disorders
  • Treating reproductive related disorders
  • Treating respiratory related disorders

Are There Any Side Effects?

Tuina produces many side effects, but all of them are positive.

A common example is the person treated for chronic back pain finding that their chronic constipation has also been eased. This is because the pain treatment focuses on the Bladder meridian which links directly into the Qi energies of the large intestine.

Are The Any Contraindications?

As with all forms of therapy, there are certain conditions that would contraindicate Tuina but very few would contraindicate it completely.

Very deep, soft tissue massage and vigorous join manipulations would be inappropriate for someone with osteoporosis and so would direct massage on skin affected by eczema or infection, to mention just two examples. Even in these cases, however, it might be possible to do very effective Tuina using distinct parts of the meridians and selected distal points.
